Contains the following type of materials: photographs. Covers the following wars: Spanish-American War, World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII), Korean War. Contains photographs of the following military units and organizations: Pennsylvania National Guard; U.S. Regulars. General description of the collection: The Charles B. Oellig photograph collection consists of photos of individuals of the State Fencibles and Pottsville Light Infantry during the 1880s as well as individual images of other men of the National Guard of Pennsylvania (NGP). There are numerous photos for the period of the Spanish-American War / Philippine Insurrection with both NGP and U.S. Regulars represented as well as for the Mexican Border (1914-1917) and WWI. There is a nice group of photos of the NGP training area at Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania during the 1920s and 1930s and of the Indiantown Gap Military Reservation where the Pennsylvania National Guard moved prior to WWII. Photos of the WWII era include training at the Fort Indiantown Gap as well as the 28th Infantry Division and other units in the European Theater of Operations (ETO). Images of activities and personnel of the NGP / 28th Infantry Division following WWII are fewer in number, but show the story of the National Guard and the Regular Army in the last quarter of the 20th century.

Jonas Heil served as a private in the National Guard of Pennsylvania in Captain John F. Schoener's Company C, 7th Regiment; he enrolled on 13 November 1875, and was discharged on 9 May 1876 at Mahanoy City, Pa., for physical disability.
